The Thermo Materials Division of Ceradyne inc. was founded in 1967 to
commercialize fused silica ceramic technology that was originated by the
company founder while on staff at the Georgia Institute of Technology. The
company became a division of Ceradyne Inc. in late 1986 and has since grown to
include 4 installations located near Atlanta, GA. These installations include
several kilns, processing mills, coordinate measuring machines and specially
designed grinding equipment, including CNC cylindrical grinders used in
processing radomes and other high technology applications.
The division is a world leader in fused silica technologies and maintains
several product lines including fused silica crucibles for the photovoltaic
industry, fused silica rolls for glass tempering furnaces, high technology
ceramic radomes for defense applications and several ceramic solutions for the
high temperature metal and glass forming industries. Ceradyne also markets a
full line of fused silica based castables.
The Thermo Materials' quality system is based on "Total Employee Involvement".
Product traceability is maintained throughout the system from raw materials
through each step of processing and inspection using extensive statistical
process control using the latest software and quality assurance techniques.
